  The article “Givenchy rolls back the years to 1993 with bra tops and baggy jeans” written by Jess Cartner-Morley published in the Guardian 29 Sep 2019 is devoted to the discussion of next spring fashion trends on Givenchy catwalk example.

  First, the author explains the biggest fashion trend for the next spring as the designer Clare Waight Keller named next season’s collection NY Paris 1993. Jess Cartner-Morley gives us example of the outfits on a catwalk: baggy jeans were worn with high-heeled mules, stonewashed denim skirts with bare knees and calf-length boots. She also pays attention to Kaia Gerber, daughter of 90s supermodel Cindy Crawford, who wore a satin bra top and black leather.

   Then Jess draws the reader’s attention to Allison Yarrow’s 2018 book 90s Bitch: Media, Culture and the Failed Promise of Gender Equality. She also emphasizes that women found themselves looking differently at that decade.

“The book made me realise how sexualised women were in that era, and how little we recognised that at the time – and how what happened then led to where we are now. The fashion of that era is so raw.” - Waight Keller said. 

  The author pays attention to Waight Keller’s desire to revisit the 90’s era but with a more enlightened outlook of “liberated femininity”. Hemlines became longer, fabrics got tougher. A jeans revival is emerging as a theme at this Paris fashion week, after Hedi Slimane’s Celine collection gave a starring role to 1970s style flares.

  Finally, as all fashion experts assure that fashion is cyclical, in the nearest future we will find people wearing leather bra tops, baggy jeans and high-heeled boots again.
