Racism essay
Many people wrongly prejudice
African-Americans based on racial stereotypes. Research by J. Rickford showed that more than a quarter of American sites
characterize African-Americans as dumb, lazy, prone to crime, sex addicted
people who should not be taken seriously. First, African Americans are often
associated with poverty. According to the Pew Research Center, in 2014 in America there were more poor people with
black skin than with white (26% compared to 10%). In addition, from 1930 to
1970, a law prohibited the lodging of people of different skin types in the
same places. As a result, many wealthy blacks were cut off from luxury real
estate. Most of the black inhabitants lived poorly, turning new homes into
dirty, unsightly shacks. The law was repealed, but ghettos still exist. Secondly,
blacks are associated with crime. Poverty pushes these people to crimes almost
daily. According to The Guardian, in 2016 African-Americans were imprisoned 5
times more often than “whites.” Trump’s statement that “Blacks commit 81% of murders in
America” is also widely known. Police often grab people with dark skin, usually
in ghettos. There are some national stereotypes: noisiness, physical strength
and the habit of solving problems by a crowd of friends or relatives. All facts
form the image of the aggressor for African Americans.
All in all, he situation of African Americans
in America has improved greatly.
But millions of people still see life in a “black color” because of social prejudices, stereotypes
and characteristics of the local economy.
